HAWAII VOLCANOES VISITING CENTER

Located in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, the visitor center seeks to evoke the feeling of being inside a volcano, while also highlighting the deep history of the land and its native people, connecting the past to the present-day environment in a meaningful way.

The center’s design features a combination of immersive exhibits and interactive elements that not only educate visitors about the park’s dynamic volcanic activity but also honor the cultural heritage of the Hawaiian people. The goal is to create a sensory experience that allows guests to feel as though they are stepping inside the powerful forces that have shaped the island for centuries. This immersive approach is balanced by spaces that offer moments of reflection on the spiritual significance the volcano holds for the native Hawaiian culture.

Exploring the concept of freedom of form, pushing the boundaries of conventional design while acknowledging the physical constraints of the materials we choose. A key aspect of this process is understanding how structure influences the overall design. Structural considerations not only support the physical integrity of a project but also shape its aesthetic and functional outcomes. By thoroughly examining the materials and their limitations, we can create designs that are both innovative and feasible.

Beyond the structural aspects, a deep understanding of the socio-cultural identity of our clients is crucial for designing impactful solutions. This involves delving into the personal agendas, interpersonal dynamics, and group relationships that define their lives. Recognizing these elements allows us to craft designs that resonate with the client’s unique background, values, and experiences, ensuring that the final outcome is both meaningful and contextually relevant.
